TMMworld Server Guides
This is very basic set of guides, intended for the beginner, starting with some very basic information such as what is meant by a "Dedicated Server" in on-line gaming, how to setup a small server from home, and how to setup the equipment and run the server. After following this guide, you should be able to launch your own game server within your home for internet or home network play (LAN).
This guide is designed for someone who wants to understand what it will take to get started with a small server for Medal of Honor Allied Assault (MOHAA), Medal of Honor Spearhead, or Medal of Honor Breakthrough, and for Call of Duty (COD). However, in general, the guides could also be used for just about any game.
The following outline is displayed in the sequence recommend for those just starting out and have no ideas where to start. This will hopefully simplify the learning path for the beginner, but the outline below should also help others to find some specific answers.
What is a Dedicated Server? This short guide with a few images of a home network and a server steup, to describe it in simple terms, in the context of a server for home setup. An alternative to a dedicated server from home is to rent a server, using a hosting service. However, this has a cost which is prohibitive for many. The home server option is perfect for supporting a small group of friends on an internet server, or LAN game.
What do I need to get started, and how many players can I have? Based on the common home internet service, such as cable or DSL, this guide will describe the basics about what you could use to setup your server. This guide will give a brief desription of internet connection capabilities with cable and DSL, such as upload and download rates. It will also describe the type of computer needed in general terms, and describe what you can expect in regards to the number of players or clients allowed. What can you expect for maximum players on your dedicated server from home? Will the server lag?

How do I host a simple server just using the game? Anyone can host a game from within Medal of Honor, Spearhead, Breakthrough, and Call of Duty. This guide will walk you through the steps to host your own game from within Medal of Honor Allied Assault (MOHAA), including screen shots for each step. From this function, you can host a game form your PC that you can play along in, or you can launch the game in dedicated server mode.
How do I launch the dedicated server without starting the game? You do not need a top of the line PC to run a dedicated server. Also, the PC that will become the server does not require a high end video card either. If you wish to run your own dedicated server, this guide will instruct you how to launch the server from an icon on your desktop, without launching the game. It is the recommended approach for a dedicated gaming server. If you have an old machine sitting idle, it might just be sufficient to launch your own gaming server for use within the home for the family, or even for use on the internet. This guide will walk you through the entire setup process and includes a server configuration file with settings. Server.cfg
Server is running NOW WHAT? How do I Administer? Once you launch your server, how to you run it? This is a basic starter guide, with some of the commands for checking status, sending a message to the players, changing a map, or kicking a player. This is only a starting point, but includes a few notes regarding some items an admin will run into such as explaining console commands, console errors such a box corrupt errors, what are hitch warnings.
How do I setup multiple machines on one connection? Need to start a home newtwork? It is easier to get started than you may think. This is a starter guide for a home networking. This guide will describe ways you might connect multiple computers to a single internet connection such as Cable or DSL. It will describe what a router is in general, network switches, and hubs. You can quicly connect multiple computers to one home internet connection, and you do not need any technical expertise to do so.
How do I configure my router to open the server to the internet? This guide describes the setup necessary on a Linksys Router, but it should apply to most home routers available. What are the port settings for Medal of Honor Allies Assault, Spearhead, Call of Duty and others. What port ranges must I forward or open to allow a game to become visible on the internet? |

Spearhead Dedicated Server Setup. This guide will walk you through the steps to setup a dedicated server in Spearhead that will allow you to launch the server from the desktop. This is useful for a quickly launch of the server, with the ability to select an icon so the server will run the game type you choose. Team Match (TM), Death Match Free For ALL (FFA), Round Based, Objective Games (obj) and Tug of War (TOW).
Breakthrough Dedicated Server Setup This guide is similar to the spearhead guide, and will take you through the steps for setup of a Breakthrough Server. It describes how the server files are installed and how to find and setup the server.cfg files which control the game.
Call of Duty Dedicated Server Setup This guide walks you through the steps for setup of a COD Dedicated server. With this guide, you can also download server.cfg files to run a single game or mixed game server config file. This guide will take you through the steps allowing you to launch your own server in a few minutes.

Remote Console Basics (Rcon) A guide to get you started with remote administration of your server, or Remote Console (rcon). This guide will tell you what is required on your server.cfg file and some basic commands for starters.
